Red Cross warns that Yemen's hospitals are at capacity

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has cautioned that Yemen's hospitals are finding it difficult to cope with the skyrocketing amount of war injuries as fighting intensifies across the country.

Small hospitals in front-line areas in Marib and Taiz are seeing some 700 casualties of the conflict in a single week, a far great number than their usual amount of patients.

"Trauma care staff are under enormous pressure," ICRC health coordinator Feras Abusamra said in a statement.

Only a handful of hospitals in Yemen are capable of handling intensive care patients, and even those lack many of the necessary supplies and medicines as other health facilities across the country.

At least 200,000 people have been displaced in the conflict, further complicating matters for Yemen's still-functional hospitals. Moreover, due to changing front lines on multiple fronts, international organizations say at least 800,000 people have become cut off from much-needed humanitarian aid.
